Team Trek to Israel is a Hit

On your mark, get set, workout! More than 30 teams are racing towards Israel with the JCC’s newest exercise game, Team Trek to Israel. In just 1 week, more than 375 workouts were recorded, including more than 470 hours of exercise. The MVP candidate for the program so far is Lynn Tasman, completing an impressive 430 miles by herself. Her team is in a battle with M.O.T. for the overall lead.

Each team has four to five people, with each person being asked to work out at the JCC for at least three hours a week between now and April 26, Israeli Independence Day. For every 30-minute workout, 15 miles will be awarded to the team for a total of at least 6200 miles per team, the distance from Louisville, KY, to Haifa, Israel.

The goal of the program is to encourage members to exercise more and use their JCC membership. It is also a great way to educate people about Israel, something not lost on Shmully Litvin, a member of Team 27. “I like the idea of connecting health to Israel.” Shmully is a long-time member of the JCC but he is increasing his workouts from 3 times a week to 4 for the program.

Marlon Cummings is a member of PicU, a family team consisting of his wife, son and his son’s girlfriend. “When we joined, we heard about the program and thought it sounded like a fun way to stay motivated to work out,” said Cummings. Right now, he works out 3 times per week for 2 hours a day but would like to increase that to 5 days a week. Most of his time is spent on the elliptical trainer and walking, but he also enjoys a dip in the pool and relaxing in the sauna.
