Les Misérables Takes Home Four Awards at Louisville Broadway World Awards

Louisville boasts a vibrant arts community with over 40 theater companies. For a number of years, the theater companies have been asking for an awards ceremony to celebrate the great work they do.

This year, that dream was realized. Broadway World, a web-based theater promotion organization that boasts groups in every major American city came to Louisville and worked with local media people to create the Louisville Broadway World Awards.

When all the nominations were in and all the votes were tallied, CenterStage’s production of Les Misérables swept the local awards. CenterStage Artistic Director John Leffert was named Best Director and Monte Fields, Best Actor. Theresa Bagan was singled out for Best Lighting Design and Simmons Faulk for Best Set Design.

The competition was stiff: 169 individuals, 76 productions and 31 companies were nominated and 17,000 votes were cast.

The next public nomination period will open in October.
