Catch the Debut Performance of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day CenterStage Launches Acting Out Children’s Theater Troupe

It was a horrible, no good, very bad day for Alexander, but it is a great day for CenterStage at the Jewish Community Center of Louisville. CenterStage’s newest endeavor, CenterStage Acting Out, a professional touring children’s theater, is ready to roll. The troupe’s main mission is to travel to area schools to present educational and relevant music for students. They also invite the public to experience the show at their public debut, Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m. at the JCC (3600 Dutchmans Ln.).

CenterStage Acting Out will perform the classic children’s story, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day March 5 through May 11. In this delightful adaptation of her popular book, Judith Viorst sets Alexander’s rather trying life to music and brings to the stage one of America’s feistiest characters. Thanks in part to a grant from Jewish Hospital Healthcare Services and CenterStage’s annual fundraiser, Light Up, CenterStage Acting Out will be able to perform this play at many schools for free or at a reduced price, making this high quality production accessible to many who might not otherwise be able to experience it.

“I am very excited to debut this amazing program,” said CenterStage Artistic Director John R. Leffert. “Before entering the world of theatre professionally, I taught public school for 12 years and much of my professional theatre background has been in children’s theatre. I know how important the arts are to our youth of today. This program will not only assist teachers in reaching core content goals, but will enrich the lives of each student who sees our production.  There is a magic in children’s theatre that cannot be matched.”

The public is invited to see the show on March 4, before it begins touring to schools. It is sure to be a fun and educational show for children and adults alike. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for children. For more information or to reserve a seat, call the JCC at 502-459-0660 or click here.
