Light UP CenterStage Returns with 10th Anniversary Show

Fans of theater can enjoy the Broadway experience and a night of glitz and glamour at CenterStage’s annual fundraiser, Light Up CenterStage on Dec. 6.

“Light Up CenterStage is an incredibly special night where the performers, artistic team, CenterStage board and you, the audience, come together to create the magic that is CenterStage,” said John Leffert, CenterStage artistic director. “CenterStage is a family, and that is what makes us special.”

This is the 10th anniversary of Light Up, which originally began to raise money for a new lighting system for the stage. Since then, it has been used to raise funds for other improvements, such as sound, other lighting and to underwrite Acting Out, CenterStage’s professional touring theater group, to ensure that no school is excluded from programming because of finances.

This year, the goal is to complete the chair campaign, which raises funds to replace the chairs in the JCC’s auditorium with some that are more comfortable for theater-goers.

There will be hors d’oeuvres, an open bar sponsored by Heaven Hill, decadent desserts and a Broadway musical revue, which will include a mix of past and present Broadway favorites, Leffert said.

There will also be a silent auction, which is one of the biggest in Louisville with hundreds of items available, said Lenae Price, CenterStage development and outreach manager.

“The JCC will be completely transformed,” Price said. “It’s really incredible.”

Seats are extremely limited, so participants need to RSVP as soon as possible.
