At the Jewish Community Center, the unofficial start of summer comes very early. The outdoor lap pool will open on Sunday, April 15, signaling the change of season, and will be available every day when the temperature is above 60 degrees. From April 15-Memorial Day the lap pool will be open from Noon-6 p.m. From Memorial Day until Labor Day, the pool will be open from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. There will be reserved times for lap swim and Gators Swim Team Practice, a complete schedule will be posted online here.
The seasonal change is also a good reason to stop by the JCC and check out the many changes and improvements that have been implemented recently.
“It was a long winter of renovations in the spa area,” says Aquatics Director Liz Stumper. “The JCC staff is working hard to bring new features to the pool that everyone will enjoy all summer.”
Americans with Disabilities Act compliant chair lifts were added to the indoor pool and spas as well as the lap pool this winter.
Watch for exciting changes coming to the baby pool, too, including a new spray feature and a zero-depth entry, which will combine to make the pool more fun and ADA complaint at the same time. The pool itself will also be expanded, too.
“We’re adding the new feature to the pool to make it more fun for small children and their parents,” says Stumper.
The expansion was provided in part by a generous donation from Scott and Jessica Davis and Facility Management Services.
The newly redesigned baby pool as well as the family pool and diving well will open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28. The entire community is invited to celebrate with a “Picnic at the Pool.” Watch for details about this free event.
The JCC is also changing how members will access the pool to keep them more secure. Pool Gate will be moved to the outdoor locker room. This will help the JCC keep the pool open to all its members. All members will be able to check in at the gate and go straight to the outdoor locker rooms before entering the pool. The old pool gate will become an exit only gate. Members will be able to enter the pool area through the JCC after using the indoor locker rooms as well.
