Twenty-one new spin bikes are in place at the JCC and members love them. All bikes are exactly the same, meaning no matter which bike a member is riding, the settings will be easy to find. There are even more settings and movable parts on the new bikes to find the perfect fit.
“The seats are more comfortable. It felt like the older bikes were built for men and tilted down. The new bikes are more flat and easier for everyone to use,” said Susie Pope.
The new spin bikes are part of continued improvements at the JCC, especially in the Health and Wellness department. Last fall, new ellipticals and treadmills were installed. This winter the indoor pool and spa areas were renovated to become compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Before summer starts, the outdoor baby pool will be expanded to include a zero-depth entry and splash feature included.
“The JCC has the best instructors in town and now we have the best equipment to go with them,” said Karen Hamilton. “The instructors take time to correct your form if you are doing something wrong before you have serious problems. They also play appropriate music with the right tempo and are very encouraging.”
With 24 spin classes each week, there is time for anyone to get the calorie burning experience of a spin class. Experience and ability are no barriers.
“When I took my first class, I couldn’t finish 20 minutes of the workout,” said Hamilton. “I had to leave and work on the elliptical. The next week, I came back and Becky remembered me. She was very encouraging and got me through the whole workout.”
The spin room is open anytime the JCC is open. Member-only spin class schedules are posted online. Members can reserve bikes up to two days in advance of a class by calling 238-2727.
