On Sunday, July 20, 2014, the community came together to stand with Israel in a rally at the Jewish Community Center, organized by the Jewish Community Relations Council and the Louisville Board of Rabbis and Cantors.
A moment of silence was observed for the 13 Israelis and 65 Palestinians killed that day by the that time. The rally opened with the Star Spangled Banner and closed with Hatikvah. It included psalms, prayers for peace as well as a song asking for peace, “Od Yavo Shalom Aleinu,” and “Am Yisrael Chai.” Dafi Chen, this summer’s shlicha to the JCC camp program, spoke with difficulty, as a close friend of hers was among those killed today. Others spoke about personal experiences, too.
The Jewish Federation of Louisville is participating in the Jewish Federations of North America Stop the Sirens Campaign. You can make your donation to help the children who are traumatized, provide relief for those who must remain in bomb shelters and others who are affected by this war at www.jewishlouisville.org/stopsirens.
