PJ Plus Celebrated Shavuot in Pajamas

On Sunday, May 16, 11 members of the new PJ Plus program came to the Jewish Community Center for a special Shavuot Pajama Party. The kindergarteners through second graders enjoyed breakfast, danced and ran relay races. They also painted terra cotta pots and planted them with marigold seeds.

The program also gave the participants the opportunity to learn. “We talked about the upcoming holiday of Shavuot,” Jewish Community of Louisville Youth and Camp Director Julie Hollander explained, “and we had a pajama party because it is traditional to stay up all night and study the Torah on Shavuot.

“Also, we talked about Shavuot being a harvest holiday,” she continued, “but since we have nothing to harvest, we planted flowers.”
Plans to do some planting in the community garden were canceled due to rain.
