NCJW Needs Volunteers to Help with Camp Gilda

For one week every June, NCJW sponsors the Gilda’s Club Camp for children living with cancer. This year, the camp will be held June 8-12. As always, it will be held at Gilda’s Club of Louisville; 633 Baxter Ave. The theme this year is “Keeping Gilda’s Weird.”

The children may be living with cancer in their own bodies or have a close relative living with the disease. All need our help.

During the week, the children play, swim, explore and forget about cancer for a few hours, but they also learn more about this problem. They are given opportunities to express themselves openly and ask questions of cancer specialists away from their families. In addition, there is always music and upbeat participation in crafts and the planning for and set up of the Carnival with which the camp ends the week.

Warm-hearted volunteers are needed to assist with various activities and outings throughout the week involving the children.  Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve nutritious meals in the kitchen Monday-Thursday for breakfast, lunch and snacks.  Volunteers are also needed to assist in many phases of the carnival on Friday and to bring in baked goods for the annual cake walk.

New volunteers are always welcome as it helps to spread the news of the importance of Gilda’s Club Louisville in our community.
