More Than 150 Came to Interfaith Chanukah Celebration

Chanukah is one of the most visible Jewish holidays in the general community, but many of our neighbors know very little about it.

To increase understanding of our holiday traditions, the Jewish Community Relations Council invited people from congregations across Louisville to an interfaith Chanukah party on Wednesday, December 12, at the Jewish Community Center. More than 150 people showed up for the gala event, including 20 students from Fred Whitaker’s class at St. Francis of Assisi.

The program included performances by the River City Klezmer Band, Cantors David Lipp and Sharon Hordes and the Louisville Beit Sefer Yachad. Rabbi Michael Wolk told the story of Chanukah and led everyone in the candle lighting.
At the conclusion of the program, there were latkes and sufganiyot (donuts) for all.

Leon Wahba and Jeff Slyn co-chaired this event.
