Letter to the Editor: Bat Mitzvah Project

Dear Editor,

In August I will be bat mitzvahed and I wanted to do something very special for my bat mitzvah project. I realized that this September would mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and wanted to honor all of the public safety workers who gave their lives selflessly while trying to help others. I decided to help the police officers, firefighters, and EMS workers that give their lives by helping their families once they are gone.

Supporting Heroes is a non-profit organization based here in Louisville that gives emotional and financial support to the families of fallen public safety workers in Kentucky and Indiana. I have committed to running 911 kilometers (565 miles) during this year and I am collecting donations that will go to Supporting Heroes. So far I have run over 600 km and need to run about 300 km more by September 11, 2011.

I would like to thank all of the police officers, firefighters, and EMS workers who selflessly help others. Please join me and give back by donating at www.SarahRunsForHeroes.org, which is a website directly linked to Supporting Heroes. By making a donation to Supporting Heroes you will be able to help the public safety workers who put their lives on the line everyday here in Louisville and the rest of Kentucky and Indiana.

Thank you,
Sarah Schwartz
