Cycle for Good burns calories, raises money

The JCC’s second annual Cycle for Good event was soundly successful, with countless calories burned and almost $850 raised for Kentucky Special Olympics.

The JCC of Louisville participated in the stationary bike event with Jewish Community Centers across North America on Dec. 8, the Sunday following Chanukah.

Staggered start times allowed participants in Cycle for Good to ride bikes at the same time as other JCCs from coast to coast.

About 20 participants rented bikes for $25 per hour and solicited sponsors to fund their rides. Donations were also accepted for the JCC and Special Olympics of Kentucky outside the cycling studio and at the JCC’s entrance where Tara Stone, assistant director of memebership and wellness, cycled for 5 hours straight for the second year in a row.

Stone said the event, which also featured an array of other family-friendly activities, drew more people and raised more money than last year.
“Everyone was really excited for the cause,” she said.

Stone said she hasn’t submitted the money yet, so it’s not too late to make a donation. For those interested, contact Stone at 238-2726 or tstone@jewishlouisville.org.
