YAD Picnic a Huge Success

[Archived from August 28, 2009]

Late Sunday afternoon, August 23, Hogan’s Fountain in Cherokee Park was the perfect place to be, and more than 220 young adults and children came together for the Jewish Community of Louisville’s YAD picnic.

Bearing blankets, chairs and picnic baskets, the adults found comfortable places to settle in with their friends while children enjoyed a variety of activities, from sand sculptures to games to tie-dying – even a cake walk. Shortly after 5, John Gage filled the air with songs geared toward children, from oldies like “Puff, the Magic Dragon” to newer ones, including a couple he wrote. Gage’s appearance was in conjunction with the PJ Library program.

The fun was capped off with ice cream treats for those who wanted.

Kim Norton and Hilary Catapano co-chaired the YAD Picnic and ensured that everyone enjoyed this farewell to summer. YAD extends special thanks to Becca Cohn for her help with the children’s games. Courtney Hughes won a raffle and received a gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse.
