Upcoming JCC Orchestra Concerts

The Jewish Community Center Orchestra is tuning up for a new series of concerts.

On Sunday, Feb 27 at 7:30 p.m. the JCC Orchestra will perform a show called “Scenes de Ballet,” featuring performances of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Overture to Prometheus,” Joseph-Maurice Ravel’s “Pavane pour une infante defunte,” Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikowsky’s “Marche Slave,” Alexander Glazunov’s “Scenes de Ballet,” and Edvard Greig’s “Wedding Day at Troldhaugen.”

The BBC reports the upcoming Royal Wedding may use Greig’s Wedding Day during the service.

The series continues with a performance on Saturday April 30 at 7:30.  The JCC Orchestra will perform a multi-media rendition of Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.”  On Sunday July 3, the JCC Orchestra will present their popular Pops Concert, featuring a selection of popular music and movie themes preformed by the ensemble.

Tickets for each performance cost $12 for Guests, $10 for Members and $8 for Students.  For the first time ever, the JCL is offering Orchestra Season Tickets.  All three performances are available for the price of two. Ticket information and performance schedules are available by calling 502-459-0660.  All performances take place in the Linker Auditorium at the Jewish Community Center, 3600 Dutchmans Lane.

Founded in 1916, the JCC Orchestra is a predecessor to the Louisville Orchestra and is one of the oldest continuous community orchestras in the country.  Aaron Boaz, music director for the JCC Orchestra, has preformed for at England’s Winchester Cathedral and as a guest of the Belgian Grand Consulate.  He holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Louisville and a Master of Music in Violin Performance from Northwestern University.
