The Temple honored the importance of Bourbon in Kentucky and the Jewish Community of Kentucky with a four part-tribute to “Chosen Spirit: Our Jewish History in Bourbon Making.” The May events included a guided walking tour of Main Street Distiller’s Row with Tom Owen and a gourmet bourbon themed meal at the downtown Bernheim Distillery, a bus trip to Heaven Hill Distilleries and lunch in historic Bardstown, a Bourbon Tribute Dinner with two master distillers guiding a bourbon tasting and closed with a Special Shabbat and Bourbon Archives Exhibit.
“A number of families still associated with the Louisville Jewish community and The Temple have played an important role in one of the Commonwealth’s signature industries. The ‘Chosen Spirit’ events have underscored both the community’s historical significance and the recent renaissance of the Bourbon industry,” said Rabbi Gaylia R. Rooks.
