On Saturday, December 1, the freshman girls of Jay Levine BBG (formally known as Members-in-Training) were formally inducted into Jay Levine BBG and are now officially members.
The induction ceremony was held at Emily Wolff’s house. In order to keep inductions a surprise, the freshman girls were “kidnapped” from their homes and upon arriving at the Wolffs’ house had to complete a “Kim Possible” scavenger hunt.
The girls also enjoyed a wonderful dinner and got to see Jackie Pavlofsky, the Kentucky-Indiana-Ohio president, who came to Louisville for the ceremony. The girls participated in a havdallah service before they were inducted. During the event, the older girls in the chapter shared with the girls being inducted all of their positive experiences with BBYO.
On Sunday, December 2, the boys of Drew Corson AZA and the eighth-grade boys went to Laser Blaze and participated in two fun games of laser tag.
On Sunday, December 9, the girls of Jay Levine BBG and the Boys of Drew Corson AZA hosted a family cook-off fundraiser for Chanukah. Each member and their parent(s) brought one home-cooked dish, and they sold tastes of each dish for fifty cents. One hundred dollars were raised and donated to BBYO’s International Service Fund, which supports Jewish programming for teens worldwide in communities that do not have the resources to provide it.
Teen Connection
On Saturday, December 8, Teen Connection met at the JCC to celebrate the first night of Chanukah. The teens first participated in mixers to get to know each other, participated in a havdalah service and lit the first candle of Chanukah.
The teens then enjoyed a pizza dinner and played basketball, made menorahs, made edible dreidels, and learned a little about the story of Chanukah.
This event was planned with help from the Teen Advisory Committee, a group of Middle schoolers who come together to learn leadership skills and plan Teen Connection events.
Jewish middle schoolers looking for some fun on the Martin Luther King Day holiday are invited to participate in the Teen Connection trip to Perfect North for a day of skiing, snowboarding and tubing.
Get on the bus at the JCC at 8 a.m. and return at 8 p.m. The fee is $80 – $70 for members – and includes transportation, lift ticket and flex rental only. Each participant is responsible for his/her own meals.
