Stu Silberman’s JCL

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and read about how I came to lead the JCL. To me, it’s all about community. “Community?” you may ask, after all, I only recently arrived here, what do I really know about the Louisville Jewish community? Well, it turns out I know quite a bit about your community, and I learned it all before speaking with even a single person about the position I now hold. What’s really great is that your community knows about me, too, and knew me before you even heard my name for the first time.  And that’s because we’re Jews. We know each other. We welcome each other. We are a community.

When my wife and I married and moved from New York to West Bloomfield, Michigan, we found a welcoming Jewish community. When we moved to Hiroshima, Japan, we found one there. And when we settled to raise our family in Ann Arbor 12 years ago, we found one there, too. When we looked for a preschool for our daughters, we found the JCC. And when the JCC looked for volunteers, it found my wife and me. And, well, one thing led to another, and voila, here I am. It’s as simple as that.

While it wasn’t really that simple, the basic premise – that my connection with the Jewish Community strengthened the more I needed it – is a universal truth. When you need us, we’ll be here. We’re here for those who need us today, and, with your help, will be here for those who will need us tomorrow. For those who will age and come to rely on our services in our senior years. For those who are in grade school now who knows where, and 12 years hence, will find themselves in Louisville, just as 12 years ago we found ourselves in Ann Arbor.

Help me create a sustainable, vibrant and inviting Jewish Community of Louisville for generations to come. Give some of your time, your passion, your financial resources. Participate in our programs – they’re available for all stages of life. Engage others to experience some of what the JCL has to offer. And offer your advice on how we can best meet your needs. After all, times are changing and we must as well. Please drop me a note or give me a call.
