by A season on popular and classic musicals are in store for Centerstage’s 2012-2013 theatre season.
During the 2012-13 production season, Centerstage will present Rent (July), Next to Normal (September), Ragtime: The Musical (Oct-Nov.), Company (Jan. 2013), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Feb.-Mar. 2013), and Avenue Q (April 2013). All performances will take place at the Jewish Community Center of Louisville, located at 3600 Dutchmans Lane near the Highlands in Louisville.
Season tickets are available starting at $64 and up per person. Ticket information can be found at the Centerstage website.
Centerstage will open its 2012-13 season with Rent. The production deals with a year in the lives of struggling artists and musicians on New York’s lower east side. The characters deal with a rent strike against the landlord and struggle to survive under the impact of AIDS.
Tickets are on sale for Rent at $18 per person in advance and $20 at the door. Rent, a Jonathan Larson-created production, will run from July 12-29.
Next to Normal will begin Centerstage’s fall run of shows. The rock musical deals with bipolar disorder and the deepening effects of it on a family and the matriarch who suffers from it. The Brian Yorkie, Tom Kitt-created production will run from September 6-16.
Ragtime: The Musical follows beginning in October. Ragtime twists together three stories of extraordinary families living in America and dealing with the contradictions of history. Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, and Terrence McNally created the production based on the E.L. Doctorow novel. Ragtime will run from Oct. 25-Nov. 11.
Centerstage will be keeping Company at the beginning of 2013. THe Stephen Sondheim/George Furth production focuses on adult issues and themes as a series of friends and married couples celebrate Bobby’s 35th birthday. Company runs from January 10-20.
Nearing the end of the dreariness that is winter will be Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. This musical focuses on Joseph, once sold into slavery, having his adventure and finding his spirit constantly challenged. Joseph takes place from February 21-March 3.
Rounding out the 2012-2013 Centerstage season is Avenue Q. Think Sesame Street for adults as a college grad moves onto Avenue Q in New York, which is complete with puppets and coming to terms with adulthood. Centerstage’s final production of the season runs April 11-28.
