The Temple welcomed the Pastor’s Choir from Greater Bethel Temple on January 18 as their special guests for its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Shabbat Service.
For almost 20 years, The Temple has dedicated the Friday evening Shabbat service prior to the national holiday as a time to celebrate the life of Dr. King. This year, instead of a guest speaker, the choir from Greater Bethel Temple was invited.
Greater Bethel was asked because its church is housed in the building on Third Street which was the former congregational home of Adath Israel, before it merged with Brith Sholom in the 1970’s to create the unified congregation of The Temple.
The Pastor’s Choir gave an amazing performance, which concluded with a spirited rendition of “We Shall Overcome,” which brought the congregation to its feet with hands clapping.
To conclude the service, The Temple’s choir, Shir Chadash, joined with the guest choir to sing “Lo Yisa Goy/Down By The Riverside.”
