Master Chorale Concert at Adath Jeshurun

Master Chorale Fall concert held at Adath Jeshurun today.
2:00 p.m. – Pre-concert presentation by Dr. John R. Hale, Director of Liberal Studies Program at University of Louisville, speaking on composers and their works.
3:00 p.m. – Concert performance – “To Be Certain of the Dawn” and “Israel in Egypt”. Presented by Louisville Master Chorale, and featuring Cantor David Lipp and Cantor Sharon Hordes, along with the Louisville Youth Choir.
To Be Certain of The Dawn is a memorial oratorio originally commissioned in 2005 as a commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the freeing of Holocaust survivors. This is a lyrical and moving work that includes cantors, soloists, and a children’s chorus in addition to a mixed chorus and orchestra. It raises eternal questions of humanity, tolerance and respect while cautioning that the prevention of such horrors rests in the hands of today’s youth.
Handel’s magnificent oratorio, Israel in Egypt, is characterized by virtuosic choruses that fully exploit his lavish and sophisticated aural imagery. It is a dramatic telling of struggle and freedom through the Exodus as reflected in biblical texts.
