JOFEE Text Study

March 13, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for a recurring series of text studies delving into topics related to Jewish outdoor, food and environmental education (JOFEE). In these sessions we will explore ancient and modern Jewish ideas about how
we treat our planet, ourselves and each other.

Animal sacrifices as described in the Bible strike many modern people as an unusual or ineffective form of worship. Why did early Judaism value them so much, and how should we understand them today? Join us for a discussion on the role of animals in ancient Israel, different perspectives on the role and effectiveness of sacrifices and the intersection of agriculture and religion, all grounded in a combination of ancient and modern texts.
