Adath Jeshurun welcomes Violins of Hope
October 19, 2019 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Join us today as we welcome “Violins of Hope” at 12:30 PM following the kiddush lunch at Adath Jeshurun, 2401 Woodbourne Avenue. Avshi Weinstein will speak about the Violins and their message of hope and resilience. A violinist will perform using an instrument from the Violins of Hope collection, and a Q & A session will follow.
The Violins of Hope are a collection of more than 50 restored instruments played by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust. These instruments have survived concentration camps, pogroms and many long journeys to tell remarkable stories of injustice, suffering, resilience and survival. Israeli master violinmaker, Amnon Weinstein has spent the last two decades locating and restoring violins that were played by Jewish musicians killed in the Holocaust. His goal was to restore these violins, working along with his son, Avshi, to painstakingly piece them back together to hear them played again, restoring the memory of the nameless millions, including the musicians and artists who were lost. Today, their voices and spirits live on through the violins that Amnon and Avshi, have lovingly restored. Amnon and Avshi call these instruments the “Violins of Hope.” Avshi Weinstein will bring the Violins of Hope to Louisville for a series of events and programs taking place from October 17 – October 26, 2019.
There will be 2 opportunities to participate at Adath Jeshurun – Saturday, October 19th at 12:30 pm and Monday, October, 21st at 6:15 pm.
