The Jewish Community Center will once again celebrate Independence Day poolside with its immensely popular Independence Celebration on Sunday, July 5.
Because recent July 4 Parties at the JCC have been so successful, the Independence Celebration continues, bigger and better than ever before.
Families can compete in raft races, a Big Splash Contest, free poolside fitness demos, free popcorn and a poolside DJ and dancing.
The July 4 parties had been a big event many years ago, and the concept was brought back to the JCC in 2013 by Suzy Hillebrand, who remembered them from her childhood. “Growing up it was always a highlight of the summer, and I can’t wait to introduce it to a whole new generation of JCC families,” she said at the time.
Her efforts turned the party into a big hit, and the event has continued ever since.
Alicia Springer, JCC membership director, said “it was a blast last year. We had so much fun!”
This year, she has added a Summer Selfie Photobooth, so members can take selfies against a fun, Independence Day background. If members post those photos to Facebook and tag the Jewish Community Center in their pics, they can win prizes.
“We want our members to have a great time and carry these memories with them for the rest of their lives,” Springer said.
The pool will be open 9:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Members can bring picnic lunches to eat on the grounds or enjoy food served at the pool’s café, including $2 hot dogs and $1 watermelon slices.
The raft races begin at 11:25 p.m., the DJ will play 11 a.m.-4 p.m., free popcorn will be served 2:30-5 p.m. and the Big Splash Contest begins at 3 p.m.
