Baskets of Blessings

[by Jacob Efman]

It is a Jewish tradition and mitzvah to share celebrations with people less fortunate. Jewish Family & Career Services (JFCS) provides an ideal way to incorporate this mitzvah into every Simcha (wedding, bar/bat mitzvah) celebration – Baskets of Blessings.

In 2006, Morgan Joffee created the Baskets of Blessings program for her bat mitzvah. She found attractive wire baskets to use as her centerpieces and filled them with empty food boxes. Afterwards, she gave the baskets to JFCS as an innovative way to support the agency’s food pantry.

The baskets can really enhance the bimah and/or tables at your event while also representing your contributions to those in need.

With each basket rental, you make a tax-deductible contribution to JFCS.  Those donations are designated for the Sonny and Janet Meyer Food Pantry Fund, which provides emergency services and food for more than 130 families and numerous clients who depend upon JFCS in order to feed their families.  The centerpiece baskets rent for $36 and bimah baskets for $54. The baskets are more affordable centerpieces than others in town, and the proceeds go to a great cause.

Baskets can be customized for your event with tissue paper, ribbon and accessories to match your event theme and color schemes. The baskets can be filled with any item of choice, even non-perishable goods that can be donated to the pantry.

If you are planning a simcha, think of JFCS Baskets of Blessings. JFCS does most of the work and even delivers and picks up the baskets. You will have the satisfaction of helping feed families in need. Contact Beverly Bromley at 452-6341 to reserve baskets to make your special occasion even more meaningful.
