About Acting Out

J Arts & Ideas Acting Out is a professional, touring, children’s theatre troupe that travels to schools and community centers to present educational and relevant musical theatre to students of all grade levels.

No buses, no permission slips, no parent chaperones! Acting out brings full productions with professional actors, set, costumes, props, musicians, sound systems, etc. directly to your school.  We can perform in any space (classroom, gymnasium, library, etc.). Our programs run 60 minutes and can accommodate any number of students.

Acting Out works with Funds for the Arts each year to provide financial assistance for schools. These are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, so act fast! Click here for more information. Do you not qualify? We can work with you to provide the arts for your kids. Our programs run 60 minutes and can accommodate up to 1,000 students.


To enhance the educational experience, our actors lead a “talk back” after each performance and suggested activities, lesson plans and study guides are made available 30 days before the performance.

The production and educational opportunities will help schools in their Arts and Humanities Program Reviews and will fulfill core curriculum Arts and Humanities requirements:

AH-EP-3.3.1 Students will understand that the arts fulfill a variety of purposes in Society; sharing the human experience, recreational, artistic expression.

AH-EP-3.1.1 Students will experience music created for a variety or purposes including but not limited to recreational and artistic expression.

AH-EP-3.2.1 Students will experience dance for a variety of purposes including but not limited to recreational and artistic expression.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit

Sunday, March 2nd at 2pm &

Sunday, March 9th at 2pm

in Linker Auditorium at The Jewish Community Center of Louisville (3600 Dutchmans Lane)

Tickets: $7 kids/ $12 adults

 

John R. Leffert, (CenterStage Artistic Director) is currently in his thirteenth season as Artistic Director of CenterStage.  He has worked professionally as a director, designer and actor in the Louisville area for the past 19 years. He has directed and/or designed locally for UofL’s Opera Theatre, Belknap Theatre, Mummers and Minstrels, Not Ready for Shakespeare Players, Story Station Children’s Theatre and Derby Dinner Playhouse. John has also served as a staff director for the Heritage Repertory Theatre in Virginia where he also has performed. He has appeared onstage locally at Derby Dinner Playhouse, Actors Theatre, Story Station Children’s Theatre, CenterStage, and Music Theatre Louisville. John holds an MFA in Costume and Scenic Design from UofL and a BFA in vocal and instrumental music education from WKU.  Prior to a professional career in theatre, John taught public school for nine years.
