Production General Information

Rehearsals
Our typical rehearsal schedule is Monday-Thursday, 7-10 p.m.; Sunday 5-9 p.m. The rehearsal process is typically 6-7 weeks in length in addition to Tech Week and performance weekends. While not all actors will be called at each rehearsal, all rehearsals are required until a more specific calendar is released. Actors are expected to share any known conflicts at the start of the rehearsal process to make the best use of rehearsal time. Conflicts with performances are unacceptable.

Performances
While each may vary slightly, each production timeline typically includes 6-8 performances over a two-week period. These are both evening and matinee performances. If regularly scheduled performances sell out, we reserve the right to schedule an additional performance on the Monday evening after the first weekend OR on the final Sunday evening of the performance run. We ask that actors plan for this when they audition.

Post-Production
Strike will occur following the close of each production. All actors are expected to participate in strike activities.

Actor Compensation
Over the course of a rehearsal process and performance timeline, our actors donate upwards of 150 hours towards the success of a production. As a small way to thank our dedicated cast members, each actor is given a three (3) month membership to the Trager Family JCC. This includes access to all fitness and aquatic equipment, spaces, and programming. Additionally, each actor has two (2) complimentary tickets to their production and access to $15 ticket prices for all other mainstage productions within the season.

While in-person auditions are preferred, we understand conflicts and commitments arise.

This production will cast actors ages 8 and older.

Time Commitment

Rehearsals: Begin July 15
Tech Week: August 11-14
Performances: August 15, 17, 18, 22, 24 & 25
Strike is mandatory. 2-hour commitment after the closing performance.

*Please note that we may add additional performances if we sell out. If we sell out we would either have a Monday evening performance after the first weekend OR a Sunday evening performance the second weekend.

Synopsis

The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.

Character Breakdown

HAROLD HILL: Our story’s unsuspecting protagonist. A con man, traveling under the auspices of a salesman, he eventually falls in love with Marian Paroo. Charismatic and charming.

CHARLIE COWELL: A traveling salesmen who is on to Harold Hill’s schemes. Tirelessy attempts to prove to everyone the true con man behind Harold Hill.

SHINN: A blustery politician who is all too “self-important.” Begrudgingly married to Eulalie, he is skeptical of the town rumor mill.

EWART DUNLOP: A member of the quartet formed by Harold Hill with a tenor voice. Ewart is married to Maude Dunlop

OLIVER HUX: A baritone in the quartet formed by Hill. Oliver is married to Alma Hix.

JACEY SQUIRES: The highest tenor in the quartet. Married to Mrs. Squires.

OLIN BRITT: A citizen of River City and the bass of the quartet formed by Harold Hill.

MARCELLUS WASHBURN: Harold’s chummy old friend and former con man, he now lives in River City and is trying to settle down.

TOMMY DJILAS: An attractive, young man from the wrong side of town. He is secretly courting Zaneeta. (ages 15-20)

MARIAN PAROO: The stuff town librarian and music teacher. She is an attractive young lady who eventually falls for Harold Hill. Stuck up. Curious.

MRS. PAROO: Cheerful and always plotting. An Irish widow and mother to Marian and Winthrop.

AMARYLLIS: A slightly bratty piano student of Marian Paroo. (ages 8-12)

WINTHROP PAROO: Marian’s baby brother, he is very shy because of a noticeable lisp. Embraces Harold Hill and the marching band. (ages 8-12)

EULALIE MCKECKNIE Shinn: Mayor Shinn’s peacock wife. A serial gossiper and snob, she has trouble keeping her opinions to herself.

ZANEETA SHINN: The Mayor’s fresh-faced daughter who is in love with Tommy. Sweet and outgoing. Appears to be daffy at times. (ages 15-20)

ALMA HIX: A “Pick-a-Little Lady” married to Oliver Hix.

MAUD DUNLOP: A “Pick-a-Little Lady” married to Ewart Dunlop.

ETHEL TOFFELMIER: A comical “Pick-a-Little Lady,” and Marcellus Washburn’s girlfriend.

MRS. SQUIRES: A “Pick-a-Little Lady” married to Jacey Squires.

Time Commitment

Synopsis

Charlie Brown and the entire Peanuts gang explore life’s great questions as they play baseball, struggle with homework, sing songs, swoon over their crushes, and celebrate the joy of friendship.

Character Breakdown

Character Breakdown:

CHARLIE BROWN: A loveable loser, his main characteristics are either self-defeating stubbornness or admirable determined persistence to try his best against all odds. He can never win a ballgame, but continues playing baseball; he can never fly a kite successfully, but continues trying to do so; he knows Lucy is going to pull the football away before he kicks it, but he comes back over and over again and hopes that this time, he will prevail. Dominated by insecurities, this lovable blockhead is affable, humble but smart and vulnerable.

SNOOPY: Charlie Brown’s dog. A gentle but clownish vaudevillian scene stealer who can “sell it.” Snoopy is more human-like than dog. His character is that of a dog who pretends to be a person (or who sometimes forgets he is a dog). He can dance circles around everyone else. He is smart, wise-cracking, and joyous. This role is physically demanding both in innovation and execution.

SALLY BROWN: A highly articulate, charismatic, lovable, sometimes eccentric and argumentative younger sister (2-3 years younger) to Charlie Brown. Despite being portrayed as innocent and adorable, she is noticeably intelligent for her age. She is absurdly intense, balancing angst with innocence, sweet but a skeptic.

LUCY VAN PELT: The crabby, opinionated, manipulative, self-important older sister to Linus who bosses Charlie Brown around and perpetually offers arm-chair psychiatric advice for her rate of five cents. She must have dimension in her performance – she will have the ability to be a brute but also allow her compassion to shine when necessary. She is actually a friend to Charlie Brown and is constantly looking for ways to help him and Linus, though she is often misguided and pushy in her attempts to help.

LINUS VAN PELT: The thumb-sucking, blanket-dependent younger brother to Lucy – and Charlie Brown’s best friend. Though young, he is the smartest character in the bunch. He is also the show’s philosopher. Despite his mature vocabulary, juvenile aspects of his character are also displayed; for example, Linus is almost always depicted holding his blue security blanket and often sucking his thumb. Acutely sensitive with brains and warmth, although he is the second youngest in the group, he is the most mature.

SCHROEDER:  A friend to Charlie Brown, he is distinguished by his precocious skill at playing the toy piano, as well as by his love of classical music and the composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Lucy is in love with him but he could care less about her. His love is Beethoven and he is very serious about his musical hobby.

This production will cast actors high school-aged and older. (Must be in high school at time of performances)

Time Commitment

Rehearsals: Begin January 1
Tech Week: February 16-19
Performances: February 20, 22, 23 & 27 and March 1, 2, 6, 8 & 9
Strike is mandatory. 2-hour commitment after the closing performance.

*Please note that we may add additional performances if we sell out. If we sell out we would either have a Monday evening performance after the first weekend OR a Sunday evening performance the second weekend.

Synopsis

It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes find their cliques, recount their vacations and look forward to the new year. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. They cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical that is being led by Ms. Darbus. Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.

Character Breakdown

TROY BOLTON: The most popular kid at East High, he is the star of the basketball team who yearns to be more than what people want him to be. Troy discovers his love for music but refuses to admit it. Athletic and a true leader.

CHAD DANFORTH: Troy’s best friend. A star basketball player, part of the jocks, and second in command. Extremely focused on winning his school’s basketball championship but is slowly understanding that there might be more to this world.

ZEKE BAYLOR: A basketball player on the Wildcats Team. Energetic and charismatic. He has two secrets: a crush on Sharpay and a love for baking, which he is happy and relieved to eventually reveal.

SHARPAY EVANS: The egocentric diva star of the school musicals, she is Ryan’s older twin and the alpha dog. She thinks being the musical star defines her and clutches the title like her life depends on it, no matter what the cost to others.

RYAN EVANS: Sharpay’s fraternal twin and a self-delusional ‘star in the making.’ He typically feels the brunt of Sharpay’s attacks and lives under her shadow. Although he possesses a diva exterior, he yearns to change.

GABRIELLA MONTEZ: The new girl in school. She is trying to blend in and avoid ‘labels’ at her new school. Eventually becomes Troy’s romantic counterpart. Pretty, shy, and smart.

TAYLOR MCKESSIE: The competitive head Brainiac of the school and President of the Science Club. She convinces Gabriella to join the Science Decathlon team. Taylor has a hidden soft spot for Chad, which she hides.

JACK SCOTT: The resident P.A. Announcer for the high school. He is shy and insecure in front of the rest of the kids, but smooth and confident at the mic. Known as the “Velvet Fog of East High.”

KELSI NIELSEN: The drama club’s rehearsal pianist and student composer extraordinaire who is having her musical produced at school. Underneath her shy demeanor, Kelsi is an outspoken firecracker.

MS. DARBUS: The kooky, eccentric Drama Club teacher. She has her self-absored moments but is still devoted to her students and constantly encourages them. Passionate about the art of theatre.

COACH BOLTON: The stern basketball coach and Troy’s dad. He lost the big game years ago and wants his son to succeed where he failed. Blinded by his ambition for his son, he is still a good guy and proud father.

ENSEMBLE: Jocks; Thespians; Skaters; Cheerleaders; Party Kids; Adults; Brainiacs; Spectators

This production will cast adults 18 and older.

Time Commitment

Rehearsals: Begin March 25
Tech Week: May 4-7
Performances: May 8, 10, 11, 15, 17 & 18
Strike is mandatory. 2-hour commitment after the closing performance.

*Please note that we may add additional performances if we sell out. If we sell out we would either have a Monday evening performance after the first weekend OR a Sunday evening performance the second weekend.

Synopsis

Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can’t she?

Character Breakdown

VIOLET: The company’s Head Secretary and Mr. Hart’s Administrative Assistant, she is a single mother and typically stands up for what she believes in. Attractive, strong, ambitious.

DORALEE: A young, sexy spitfire who works at Mr. Hart’s office. She is proof that there is more to a woman than just her looks.

JUDY: The “new” girl at the firm, she has been burned by her husband’s affair and is searching for personal empowerment. Insecure, determined, and hopeful.

FRANKLIN HART: One of the firm’s executives and a notorious chauvinist. He is capable of faking charm but usually shows his true colors as an arrogant, self-absorbed boss.

ROZ KEITH: The attentive office gossip queen and snitch. She has an unrequited love for Mr. Hart and will do anything she can to win his approval.

JOE: A handsome, young office accountant. Genuine and nice, and smitten with Violet.

DWAYNE: Doralee’s attractive husband. He is very supportive of her professional pursuits.

JOSH: Violet’s awkward teenage son.

MISSY: Franklin Hart’s wife, clueless to her husband’s true nature.

MARIA: A young and vibrant secretary in Hart’s office.

DICK: Judy’s soon-to-be ex-husband. An average guy, he is sporting a little less hair and a little more paunch than he did ten years ago.

KATHY: A secretary in Hart’s office with a tendency to gossip.

MARGARET: A secretary in Hart’s office with a tendency to drink.

TINSWORTHY: Franklin Hart’s boss and Chariman of the Board. A good man, who may be wiser to Hart’s ways than he lets on.

ENSEMBLE: Office employees, police officers, hospital employees.

While in-person auditions are preferred, we understand conflicts and commitments arise.
