On stage for 22 years, Smokey Joe’s Café is a show to remember! Smokey Joe’s Café is CenterStage’s second show of the 2017-18 season. Often referred to as “the soundtrack of the 1950’s”, this musical revue will be performed September 7-17 in the Linker Auditorium in the Jewish Community Center. Tickets are $22-24 at the door and can be purchased by calling 502-238-2709 or online at www.CenterStageJCC.org. $10 rush tickets can be purchased on weekday performances in person at the box office as long as tickets are available, limit two per person.
Prepare to sing along as our cast, including Jessica Adamson, Kyle Braun, Andrea Diggs, Marcus Fisher, Devin Holley, Lauren McCombs, Tymika Prince, and Alonzo Richmond, delight with 38 rock and roll and rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The show includes popular hits such as “Hound Dog”, “Jailhouse Rock”, and “Stand By Me”.
Frank Goodloe III is directing Smokey Joe’s Café, his first show at CenterStage as well as starring in a role. “This show is an amazing journey,” says Goodloe. “The characters start out young, as teenagers, and ends in their adulthood. The themes of the songs grow from simple to more complex, but ends with each other, in the roots of their neighborhood. This is just a fun, fun show. It’s music everybody knows.”
The original Broadway cast recording won a Grammy award in 1996, and the show was nominated for several Tony awards in 1995.
