Summer camp is off to a great start at the JCC! Already, over 500 children from 20 months through 10th grade are enrolled in various programs that will take place throughout the summer months, from traditional summer camps to specialty camps. Every camp allows children to unleash their creativity and energy, make new friends, and have a great time.
JCC Summer Camp kicks off every morning with a song session called Morning Circle led by John Gage on guitar. It is a time for all campers to gather together and start the day with lots of singing and dancing with the chance for their group to win the spirit stick. All campers are also swim tested on their first day and participate in free swim in the JCC pool daily. Most also take swimming lessons offered through the Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy.
Many awesome specialty camps are being offered this summer at the JCC, ranging from theater, art and dance to a variety of aquatics and sports camps.
During the first week of camp, a Dance Mix camp finished off with the campers excitedly performing various dance styles they learned for family and other campers. Other performance camps will finish in a similar manner. Many of the sports camps include competitions and fun trips, and art camps allow children to display art and take home their creations.
Julie Hollander, camp director now in her third year at the JCC of Louisville, says her favorite part of working with camp is seeing all the kids go home happy at the end of the day. She is also glad to introduce a new pilot program inclusion camp program this year for children with special needs and states that quite a few specialty camps this year are brand new.
Limited registration is still open for many JCC Summer Camps! Open camps include Camp J-Tots, Camp Keff, Trek 46, Community Service, the Counselor in Training program and many specialty camps including Alphabet Craze, CenterStage Academy (Grades 2-3 and 4-6), Choose Your Own Adventure, Horseback Riding, J.A.W.S., Sailing, Sports Stars, and Wiley Brown Basketball Camp. These camps are filling quickly, so register today!
