The JCC is expanding its cultural arts classes this fall. Two new art instructors will be joining long-time teacher, Sue Huttenlocher, to provide additional options for art students. The JCC is also adding a new creative writing class.
Sharon Matisoff will teach a new Introduction to Soft Pastel class on Tuesdays, September 23-October 28 at 6:30 p.m.
Matisoff is an award-winning artist who creates pastel and oil paintings in the realist tradition with an Impressionistic approach to color. The course is open to students of all levels. Each week, students will work to capture an arrangement with soft pastel. The class will discuss art, color theory and the special skills needed to work in pastel. The class costs $130, $95 for JCC Members.
Luci Mistratov from the Kentucky Watercolor Society will teach Watercolor for Beginners on Mondays, September 22-October 27 at 6:30 p.m.
Mistratov is an international artist, originally from Russia and who has also worked in Germany. This class was especially designed for students who do not have a lot of experience working with watercolor and will practice the basics of still life and composition with the wet technique. Painting quickly is the goal! The class costs $136, $96 for JCC Members.
Sue Huttenlocher, a beloved instructor will continue to teach at the JCC. There are two options for her Watercolor class; October 1-22 and October 29-November 19. Both classes meet on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Each class costs $92, $72 for JCC Members.
Huttenlocher will also teach Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain on Mondays, October 6-November 24 at 10 a.m. The class for those “who can’t draw a straight line,” will teach the five basic skills of drawing.
Kristen Clodfelter will lead a class on creative writing on Mondays, September 22-November 24 at 6:30 p.m.
Clodfelter is the author of “Casualties,” of a collection of war-impact/homefront stories. She has also written for Salon and The Good Men Project and is the editor of At the Margins.
