The JCC Patio Gallery recently announced three winning pieces and five honorable mentions in the 2013 Mazin Annual Art Exhibition, which runs through January 7.
Nick Hartman received first place for his painting Blah, Blah, Blah; Katherine Knudsen won second place for her portrait Nathan; and Kevin Shultz captured third for his abstract Transcending Energy and Chaos.
Artists who received honorable mentions are: Bob Lockhart, Devon Murphy, Jenna Richards, Kathleen Loomis and Susan Moffett.
A record number of 55 artists submitted 177 works of art for consideration in this year’s Mazin Annual Art Exhibition. The renowned Billy Hertz, owner of Galerie Hertz, juried the exhibit. He selected 20 works of art from the entries for the exhibition.
Bernice Mazin, a prolific artist throughout her life, created the Mazin Annual Art Exhibition in honor of her husband, Benjamin, to give new and established Louisville artists a venue for exhibiting their work. During the opening reception on November 24, the JCC remembered the Mazin’s lives and the impact they had on the arts at the JCC.
