Offenbach: His Life and Time in France, and his final opera The Tales of Hoffmann

August 2, 2023 @ 12:45 pm - 2:00 pm

FREE

Wednesday, August 2, 12:45 p.m.
Trager Family JCC Community Room
The lecture will feature a popular aria from the opera, The Tales of Hoffmann.

Professor Lugassy will lecture about the life of Jacques Offenbach. Did you know that Offenbach – the most popular operetta writer of his time – was also the cantor of his synagogue? Through his story, we can better understand the life of the “Israelite” (the French Jewish people) during and after Dreyfus’s trial.

This is a free lecture and is open to the community.
Please RSVP to Suzy Gessner, sgessner@jewishlouisville.org, by July 31.

Guest Lecturer Maurice Lugassy
