AJ’s Shabbat Scholar

Please join us as we welcome Rabbi Laura Metzger, Shabbat scholar. Her topic will be “A Taste of Melton Mysticism and Kabbalah, the Esoteric and the Search for Spiritual Connection: What is Jewish mysticism?” Why is it so compelling that interest rises every few generations, and why is it so esoteric that interest wanes? What is the human need that the mystic tries to answer? How are we, whether mystically inclined or not, to understand the texts that express the ineffable? As poetic literature, as insight into the psyche of the mystic, as just weird and wonderful? These are the questions we’ll explore as we learn about the history of Jewish mysticism, try to understand the spiritual needs of the searcher, and delve into a selection of classic and current mystical writings.
