Louisville’s BBYO (B’nai B’rith Youth Organization) chapters had a very successful event with a large turn out at this past Sunday’s bowling event (February 1). The girls Jay Levine BBG and boys Drew Corson AZA joined together for this event to help get the attention of this year’s eighth graders, who will hopefully register to become members next year.
Everyone had a great time meeting new people and catching up with old friends over pizza and bowling at Ten Pin Lanes. We even had a few regional board members drive down to join us from Cincinnati and Columbus. The bowling event had one of the biggest turn outs in a while, which is what our chapter needs.
One of the coordinators for the bowling event was Hayley Grossman, BBG’s Morah, (membership vice president) and she said, “The first event was a huge success and a great start to the New Year! I can’t wait for the events to come!”
Nathan Speilberg, Drew Corson AZA S’gan (vice president of programming) said, “over the past few years BBYO has grown in numbers, but very slowly. It’s time for a real breakthrough and we are going to make it happen.” This event seems to be just the breakthrough we were looking for.
Also attending the event was Jenna Samuelson, the regional N’siah (president) from Cincinnati. She said, “I’m so happy that I got to attend the Louisville recruitment program! The amount of kids there absolutely blew my mind and I’m so excited to see Louisville on the rise! The program was well organized and very well publicized! I’m so excited to see what great things they do next!”
Harris Minstein, Drew Corson AZA Godol (president) said, “The bowling party was a huge success! It was everything we could have hoped for and even more.”
We also talked to Sophie Reskin, one of the many eight graders there, who said, “I’m really excited that I’m going to join BBYO! Bowling was so much fun! I can’t wait to see what other fun stuff we will do.”

The bowling party, including pizza, drinks and bowling, was a free to all teens in grades 8-12. The event was sponsored in part by the Louisville Jewish Teen Initiative and the Charles Weisberg BBYO Competition Fund. Over 65 Jewish teens participated.
