When William Yarmuth issued his challenge to the Jewish Community of Louisville’s Young Adult Division at the Major Gifts Dinner in December, the YAD co-chairs, Michael Salamon and Jennifer Tuvlin responded with excitement and determination.
At the annual YAD Campaign Event in November, those in attendance pledged $47,000 to the JCL Annual Campaign. Yarmuth promised that if YAD members could double that amount, he would match it with an additional $50,000 above his already generous pledge. He also encouraged other members of the community to step forward to join him in the challenge, adding to the matching amount.
Inspired by Yarmuth’s confidence in their emerging leadership and inspired to stretch to meet the challenge, the YAD leaders set to work. Calling their effort the L’dor Vador Challenge (from generation to generation), they’ve been making calls and asking division members to step up and do their part.
On Sunday morning, January 31, six YAD leaders and seven Hillel students came to the JCL offices in Shalom Tower and conducted a YAD telethon. In just two hours, they raised $6,462. With the dollars pledged that morning, YAD has now reached the halfway point of their quest. Since the start of the Yarmuth Challenge, YAD has raised $23,802.
In addition to Salamon and Tuvlin, Mike Fradkin, Ariel Kronenberg, Kate Latts, Tatyana Mischenko, Gariy Orcheretner, Elizabeth Post, Josh Roberts, Becky Ruby Swansburg, Michael Swansburg, Mark Talis and Liza Zell made calls.
With plans to reach out to individual YAD members, an e-mail campaign and the upcoming Super Sunday telethon, YAD is committed to achieving their goal.
