Louisville’s 10th annual WorldFest will be celebrated on the Belvedere this weekend, running Friday-Sunday, August 31-September 2, from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. daily. Exhibits include food, music, dance, culture and education. Admission is free.

“Cities that embrace and encourage their international citizens and cultures will thrive, have a stronger quality of life and will attract new growth and jobs,” Mayor Greg Fischer said. “WorldFest is a great event for exploring and celebrating Louisville’s many faces and cultures and we always look to make it more vibrant, diverse and educational. So, it’s exciting to add many new features and attractions for the 10th anniversary.”

With at least 90 languages spoken in the Louisville public schools and 50 percent of the city’s population growth over the past 15 years coming from international residents, Louisville is more culturally diverse than ever before.

WorldFest features continuous music on three stages showcasing local and international talent, as well as a wide variety of craft booths selling handmade products with styles from Africa, Asia, Europe and Central and South America.

Guests can also sample delicious authentic foods from nations around the world, including Germany, Thailand, Jamaica, Ethiopia and more. In addition, there will be a Global Village, where the culture and customs of more than 22 countries will be displayed under one roof.
Special children’s activities are planned at the Kid’s World of Discovery center.

The Jewish Community Relations Council will have a booth presenting information about Israel. The JCRC is a division of the Jewish Community of Louisville.

The festival also includes a parade of cultures and a naturalization ceremony during which the United States Citizenship and Immigrations Services, Louisville office, will administer the U.S. oath of citizenship to hundreds of people.

When you come to WorldFest, please bring canned goods for the Dare to Care Food Bank.
