Workshop Addresses Spring Holiday Dilemma

Just like Chanukah and Christmas, the spring holidays of Passover and Easter often come with their own set of dilemmas for interfaith families. Both holidays have special places in the hearts of those who grew up celebrating them. To help these families, the Jewish Community of Louisville will present a Spring Holiday Workshop on Monday, March 21, at 9:30 a.m.

The Passover Seder is one of the most widely attended Jewish celebrations, even among Jews who rarely set foot in a synagogue. Its ancient symbolism and spirit of community are deeply embedded in Jewish Culture.

Easter, on the other hand, comes with the same one-two punch as Christmas: an important religious message and a lot of fun for families and children.

So what should a family do when one spouse comes from one tradition and the other from the other? Participants in this workshop will discuss the shared history of Passover and Easter and talk about concrete ways to make their families’ festivals meaningful for everyone.

The program will be led by Sarah Richards, M.A., who is a Jewish educator and spirituality counselor. She studied religion at both Emory University and the University of Georgia, with an emphasis on the unique importance of religious holidays.

Richards crafts programs for the Jewish community, focusing on interfaith families, as well as Jews who want to find new ways of connecting with their religious heritage. She works with individuals, couples, families and groups to tailor programs for their specific needs and goals. She and her family are delighted to be part of the Louisville Jewish community.

To reserve your place at this program, please contact Allison Schwartz, aschwartz@jewishlouisville.org or 618-5325, by March 16. You will be given the location of the program when you make your reservation.
