What Does Campaign Do?

With all the hoopla and fun rolled into Super Sunday this year, it’s important to remember that the success of the 2013 Federation Campaign is critical to the health and vitality of the Louisville Jewish community and together, we do extraordinary things.

When we support the Federation Campaign, we care for those in need. We support the Jewish Family & Career Services Food Pantry to help ensure that families in our community do not go hungry. We enable JFCS to offer their services on a sliding scale so families dealing with addiction, employment issues, illness, divorce and other challenges can get the help they need, whether or not they can pay the fees for those services.

When we support the Federation Campaign, we provide nutritious, kosher meals for seniors through the congregate lunch program at the Jewish Community Center and through Meals-on-Wheels for the homebound, regardless of their income.

When we support the Federation Campaign, we honor the heroes in the community by offering discounts to those who protect us daily – active military, police, EMTs and fire personnel. We also provide scholarship assistance to families in difficult situations, allowing them access to childcare, summer camp and wellness programs.

When we support the Federation Campaign, we enrich, celebrate and sustain Jewish life, enabling young adults, ages 18-26, to participate in free 10-day Birthright Israel trips, and a trip to Israel can be a life-changing experience. We also ensure that Hillel is available on college campuses to connect Jewish students with each other through social, educational and Judaic opportunities and learning experiences.

When we support the Federation Campaign, we ensure that the Jewish Community Relations Council is there to represent the Jewish community and protect Jewish values in the general community, providing advocacy, accurate information and education.

When we support the Federation Campaign, we nurture Jewish identities in our children through programs like The PJ Library, which provides free, high quality Jewish books and CDs to children, delivered to their homes; and through scholarships that enable children to attend Jewish overnight camps.

When we support the Federation Campaign, we also fulfill our responsibility for Jews at risk around the world. Working with our partners, the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and World ORT, we provide food assistance, resettlement services, job training, programs for the disabled and elderly, outreach for dropouts and more.

When we support the Federation Campaign, we build bridges with Israelis in the Western Galilee through Partnership 2Gether, exploring learning opportunities, sharing medical and business knowledge, experiencing each other’s culture and developing lifelong friendships.
