Twisters, Blizzards Hit The J at Mother Nature-Themed Spring Camp

DSC_3468Twisters, tornadoes and blizzards barreled in as Spring Camp wrapped up a Mother Nature-themed week at The J.

Kindergarteners through sixth graders enjoyed each day of their Spring Break at The J with nature-themed arts and crafts, sports and games. “Storm” Friday completed the week with messy hair day and rain stick making.

Although the days were filled with fun, camp focused on educating children about each day’s theme.
Take “Tundra Day” for example. Children became greenhouse gases to learn how gases move and then planted seeds in their own greenhouse egg cartons.

Assistant Director of Camp and Youth Services, Mike Steklof, said the children most enjoyed making rain sticks and bubble rainstorms.

Staff members are now gearing up for The J’s Summer Camp which is more than just a place where children come to play during the summer. This year’s imagine-themed camp will give campers the opportunity to learn the importance of social action and how they can make a positive social change in the world. The J’s ACA Accredited summer camps means parents can rest assured knowing their child’s camp cares enough to undergo a thorough (up to 300 standards) review of its operation–from staff qualifications and training to emergency management.

Registration for The J’s Summer Camp is now open. For more information, visit www.jcclouisvillecamp.org.
