The Temple is Kentucky’s oldest and largest Jewish congregation, founded in 1842. The Temple is a vibrant congregation that offers exceptional educational programs and an impressive array of activities for members of all ages.
Shabbat services on Friday evening and Saturday morning are held throughout the year and The Temple provides all life cycle ceremonies. A diverse selection of Sabbath and holiday worship services are available, such as Family Worship, Classical Reform Services, Service of Song, Alef Services for spiritual renewal and services with special programming.

Life

Tikkun Olam
Continuing in the congregation’s long-standing commitment to social action, the rabbis direct a number of programs to fulfill the mitzvah of tikkun olam. Current congregational efforts include Habitat for Humanity, Jewish Family and Career Services food bank, Kentucky Harvest, activities and assistance for the residents of the Volunteers of America’s Family Emergency Shelter, feeding the hungry as a partner congregation of MAZON, the annual Merry Mitzvah program and support of a local farmers’ market.
Special programming is planned throughout the year to involve students and their families including monthly family dinners and student-led family Shabbat services, as well as special holiday programs.
Sisterhood
The Women of Reform Judaism (Sisterhood) offers a Tu B’Shvat Seder and a Women’s Passover Seder, Annual Interfaith Coffee and gatherings of general interest throughout the year. It provides scholarship funds to Temple youth, as well as operates The Temple Gift Shop. There is an annual women’s retreat held at Shaker Village that draws all ages together to explore spiritual aims.
Brotherhood
The Men of Reform Judaism (Brotherhood) provides interesting monthly programs and fellowship for men, while raising money to support programs and scholarship for every aspect of Temple life. The High Holiday Remembrance Book, social programs, and the congregational Hanukkah party are the hallmarks of the Brotherhood’s efforts.
Young Adult
The Young Adult group includes more than 100 members and offers a variety of Saturday night parties and activities including progressive dinners, jazz concerts and dinners, pool parties, and movies to enhance the social life of members ages 25-45.
Youth
The Temple sponsors TiLTY, an active youth group affiliated with the North American Federation of Temple Youth, Ohio Valley Region provides programs focus on friendship, religious, and social action themes. Regional activities are also available to members. Temple children have the opportunity to attend summer camping sessions at Goldman Union Camp Institute in Zionsville, IN.
Seniors
Chavurat Shalom – a fellowship of wholeness and peace – is a community-wide senior adult program, based at The Temple. The group provides a social outlet for participants to enjoy conversation, activities, and community. Its activities are created in collaboration with Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family and Career Services, which facilitate participants’ access to community resources.
