The PJ Library’s Seder Storytelling Helps Children Prepare for Passover

Adults spend many hours cleaning their homes and making the necessary preparations for Passover. On Sunday, March 21, nearly 50 parents took time out to bring their young children to Shalom Tower to help them get ready for the holiday with The PJ Library’s Seder Storytelling.

Expert storyteller Marsha Roth started the children off with some warm ups and a chorus of “The Matzah Ball Song.” When they got to Karbon Books’ Children’s Haggadah, the youngsters acted out the parts of the frogs, pharaoh and the Jewish slaves, and learned some of the Passover songs.

Roth also shared the story, The Little Red Hen and the Passover Matzah by Leslie Kimmelman, and led the group through some yoga to round out the program.

“It was a wonderful group of parents and children,” Roth said. “Now, we’re all ready for our Seders.”

The PJ Library, which is administered by the Jewish Community of Louisville’s Foundation for Planned Giving, provides free, age-appropriate books and CDs for youngsters from 6 months of age to 6 years with funding made possible by the Stephen, Sandra and Donald Linker Family Fund and a grant from the Grinspoon Foundation. Event co-chairs are Marsha Roth and Mona Schramko.
