About Acting Out

J Arts & Ideas Acting Out is a professional, touring, theatre troupe that travels to schools and community centers to present educational and relevant musical theatre to audiences of every age.

No buses, no permission slips, no extra chaperones! Acting out brings productions with professional actors, costumes, musicians, sound systems, etc. directly to your facility.  We can perform in any space such as a classroom, gymnasium, library, etc.

Program Length: 45 minutes

Experience Description for Schools, Community Centers, and Senior Facilities

You have the audience; we will bring the show to you! Trager Family JCC and Centerstage offer the touring company Acting Out which will travel to your facility with a cabaret style show with live music, dancing, and interactive portions.

The show is centered around Jewish composers from the 20th century with songs written by George Gershwin, Simon and Garfunkel, Stephen Schwartz, Rogers & Hammerstein, Frank Loesser, Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne, George Wyle, Eddie Pola, Peter Yarrow, and Bob Dylan. Songs include (among others) Sound of Silence, I Got Rhythm, It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Puff the Magic Dragon as well as the 2015 Eurovision contest winner “Golden Boy” which is a staple with the JCC Summer Camp.

The show includes informational snippets about the space Jewish composers hold in the history of music from the 20th century and today as well as be invited to dance and sing! Get ready to be entertained by this joyous presentation of Jewish Jams. 

About Jesse Barfield

Originally from Louisville, KY, Jesse Barfield earned his BA in Theatre and minor in Dance from Millikin University. He has performed internationally aboard a cruise ship and nationally in California, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Florida, and Kentucky. His current role at Trager Family JCC in Louisville, KY, is Assistant Camp Director/Arts and Ideas Outreach and is the director/music director/choreographer of Acting Out. He owns and operates Talent World, LLC, “improv-ing lives and opening minds,” which brings training through improvisation games and activities to schools and businesses across Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
