Campers will begin to explore the world of robotics as they build LEGO® based models that teach the fundamentals of robotic design. They will also begin to think critically about their surroundings and realize all the simple machines they use every day. Whether learning about sensors while building drills and magic wands, or discovering ways that gears, and pulleys create movement while building helicopters and robotic dogs, campers are sure to have a great time. Academic enrichment: pseudo-coding, sensor input, mechanics, critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork.

Cosmic Cup Soccer, Grades K-5

Join the third annual soccer Cosmic Cup at The J! Our week-long soccer camp will culminate in a friendly tournament on Friday morning. We will create four teams, mixing players up so that each team has a similar skill level. The team that has the highest score at the end of the Friday morning session will receive the Cosmic Cup. All players will receive a participation medal. Families are invited to the Friday morning tournament session and to the award ceremony and, of course, stay for lunch. Our daily training will focus on the following: mobility (gross motor skills development and developmental movement patterns, such as squatting, hopping, running and  homo-lateral and contra-lateral crawling);  stability (balance exercises on the ground and on the soccer ball to trigger core support in the torso); Foot skills (stopping and trapping a moving ball,  kicking  with instep to a fixed and moving target,  basic dribbling and aiming at a moving target, dribbling and team-building with a focus on analysis of a problem, creative solutions, and socio-emotional development.

Week 2 (June 11-15)

ASD Young Artists, K-10

Social-emotional theater camp: this one-week camp will be a full inclusion workshop for both students on the autism spectrum and their general education peers. In this camp we will use theater games and activities to enhance social interaction and empathy skills. We will explore common situations through role-playing and will culminate in an invited workshop to showcase some of the activities that we have been working on. The goals of this camp are to build confidence and social competency.

Video Game Making, Grades 5-10

Nathan Fouts

Learners will have hands-on experience using game-building software (Construct 2) to build a game with the class, then a game on their own. Computer programming experience not required.

Bring USB memory stick (used to take work home if desired).

Instructor Nathan Fouts is a designer and programmer in the video game industry, working for over 15 years on PS3, Xbox 360, mobile, and PC games.

Medieval Mania: Castles, Catapults and More; Grades 2-4

Do you like castles, knights and all things medieval?  This is your camp!  Help make parts of a castle that you can decorate and take home.  Campers will be making life size shields, swords and axes to use and play with. Campers will also learn about family crests, so they can decorate their shields and armor with historical symbols.  There will be a castle competition where campers can build catapults to attack their opponents fortress.

Week 3 (June 18-22):

Basketball the Bellarmine Way, Grades 1-8

This camp will work on teaching basic fundamental skills of basketball and will be individual skill focused.  There will be an emphasis of teaching, fundamental stations, skill development and competition.  Campers will also be playing five-on-five and will have the opportunity to learn game skills as well.  Campers will be grouped by grade and ability.

In this exciting camp, campers will explore robotics and basic computer programming as they build a variety of military inspired robotic models. While learning about and experimenting with motors, sensors, gears, pulleys and programming, campers will gain a deeper understanding of mechanical design and performance. Each day campers will learn valuable skills and have a blast creating robotic catapults, crossbows, tanks, bomber planes and much more! Rock Stars Dance Camp, Grades K-2

It’s time to put on your hats, gloves, and guitar to become a J-Dance Rock Star! This camp is designed to give your children the confidence they deserve, and make them feel like rock stars. Throughout the week, campers will explore dance concepts, dance terminology, and learn three dance routines that will be performed at the end of the week on the JCC Main Stage. In addition, campers will participate in a variety of rock star arts and craft activities; they will be given an opportunity to conduct their very own photo shoot with the materials made throughout the week. Spotlight Camp (2 weeks, 6/18-6/29), Grades K-2

“ARF” – A Canine Musical of Kindness, Courage and Calamity

A great show that reinforces an important life concept. That we are all different from one another, often as different as a Saint Bernard is to a Chihuahua. But we all have something to offer and special talents that, if encouraged and developed. Help us find our niche in the world.

Doggie Town is a-buzz with excitement! Judges from the famous Wurstchester Dog Show are coming to spot new talent, and everyone is busy rehearsing for the big show. General German Shepherd is drilling on proper etiquette and discipline, the singing Dalmatians are connecting the dots, the Boxers are toning and getting in shape. But why is Rover the mutt so sad? Join the huskies, poodles, pointers and more as they help Rover discover his special talent! 

Week 4 (6/25-6/29)

Calling all gamers! Campers will have a blast building and coding robotic games each day while learning about robotics and simple machines. They will also learn to think more critically about their surroundings and realize all the simple machines they use every day. Campers will learn about gear ratio, sensors, programming and pulleys as they create fun-to-play games. Whether creating a robotic hockey player, pinball machine or a ring toss game, campers are sure to have fun building, learning and playing.  “WORLD OF DANCE” CAMP, Grades 3-6

J-Dance Camp takes NBC’s new dance competition series to the next level. Campers will learn new dance concepts and terminology from a variety of different dance styles including contemporary, jazz, and hip hop. These skills will offer campers a foundation to create their own dance routines. These routines will be mentored by dance camp professional staff members. Your camper’s choreography will then be produced and performed at the end of the week on the JCC Main Stage.

“We’re off to sail the rollicking sea, pirates all are we!” But ARRRR, and shiver me timbers! There’s a stowaway on board! Perhaps the King of the High “C’s” will know what to do. Join this salty crew of colorful scallywags when Bluebeard, Yellowbeard, Whitebeard, Purplebeard – well, you get the picture – along with the No Beards hoist the Jolly Roger and set sail for a mighty adventure.

Week 6 (7/9-7/13)

Science Olympiad, Grades 5-8

Campers will compete in several of the exciting building events from Science Olympiad.  Campers will be building and testing designs throughout the week.  They will focus on three to four events based on camper’s interests.  Events can include building 20-inch tall balsa wood towers, launching air-powered rockets, learning about forensic science, building mousetrap cars, building contraptions in Write It Do It, or a Barbie bungee competition.

Healthy Living and Fitness, Grades 6-10

Week 7 (July 16-20)

Wild Weather Week Camp, Grades 3-7

Weather affects us all, and weather camp will dive into the science of meteorology!

Campers will get a first-hand experience of how observations, forecasts and careers in meteorology work.  We will take daily measurements, make our own forecasts, talk to professional meteorologists and hear from people whose jobs depend on the weather forecasts. Field trips will include the WLKY studios to see how meteorologists present forecasts on the news and to the National Weather Service office.

Snapology Brick Art & Design Lab (Art History), Grades 2-7

Edgar Degas, a famous artist, once said, ‘Art is not what you see, but what you make others see’. As campers learn about different types of art and the periods they were created in, they will interpret what they see and create works of art using LEGO® bricks. Through interactive art history, campers will learn about Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Wright’s Falling Water and many more! Academic enrichment: explore various art forms and periods, including sculpture, painting, architecture, ballet, impressionism and cubism.

Spotlight camp (2 weeks, 7/16-7/27), Grades 6-8

It’s All About the Show

In this camp, campers will design and write their own show. From designing the set, writing their own lines to picking the music and even choreographing. Campers will learn about discipline, creativity, hard work, and working together as a team.  Success will be accomplished on the STAGE.

Week 8 (July 23-27)

If your child loves Star Wars®, this is the camp for them! Campers will have a great time in this week filled with Star Wars® themed activities using LEGO® bricks and other interactive learning tools. We will explore concepts such as engineering strong structures while building scenes from the movies, favorite ships and lightsabers; as well as building confidence and presentation skills as students explain their creations to their peers. May the force be with them! Academic enrichment: engineering, presentation skills, group interaction, problem solving and teamwork.

Strength and Conditioning, Grades 6-10

Build strength and endurance with this one-week camp. Campers will also learn basic nutrition guidelines and how you can improve your jump height, run a faster mile, build strength and many other conditioning exercises for further growth and development.

Amazing Paper Animations, Grades 3-5

Campers will be building amazing 3-D models with paper and glue. During the week, campers can make models of vehicles, building, Cubee Craft figures, Minecraft characters and blocks, bobble heads and more complicated animated models with moveable arms and legs.

Week 9 (7/30-8/3)

Snapology Creature Creator Robotics, Grades 2-7

In this camp, your animal lover will create their own animal-inspired robotic models, while learning about some of the traits and characteristics of their favorite creatures. Campers will learn about gear ratio, sensors and simple machines as they build insects, dolphins, gorillas and much more. In addition, they will learn valuable programming skills in an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop format. Campers are sure to have a wild time as they build, learn and play! Academic enrichment: pseudo-coding, sensor inputs, engineering, mechanics, problem solving and teamwork.

Triton Cup Soccer, Grades K-5

Creative Crafts – Sewing & Jewelry Making, Grades 4-8

No sewing experience required.  First campers will learn how to sew creatures and characters out of felt and fabric.  They will learn a variety of sewing stitches and get to make a variety of stuffed animals/creatures.  Second, campers will create several pieces of wearable jewelry.  Projects will include making necklaces, key chains and earrings.  All participants will get a sewing kit and will get to keep all their creations.
