Snapology: Adventures with Star Wars (K-5)

week 1 | Jun 8 – Jun 12

Tier A: $250 J Members, $290 Non-Members

If your child loves Star Wars®, this is the camp for them! Children will have a great time in this week filled with Star Wars® themed activities using LEGO® bricks and other interactive learning tools. We will explore concepts such as engineering strong spacecraft and structures while building scenes from the movies, favorite ships and lightsabers. May the force be with them! Campers will get to build and take home their own LEGO® mini figure at the end of this camp.

Snapology: Intro to Robotics (K-2)

week 2 | Jun 15 – Jun 19

Tier A: $250 J Members, $290 Non-Members

Children will explore the world of robotics as they build and code moving, LEGO® based models. They will also learn to think critically about their surroundings and realize all the simple machines they use every day. Whether learning about sensors building drills and magic wands or discovering how gears create movement in helicopters and robotic dogs, your child is sure to have a great time! Snapology: Machines, Motors & Contraptions (K-3)

week 3 | Jun 22 – Jun 26

Does your child love to tinker and create new things, or do they learn by breaking things apart to see what’s inside? If so, this camp will spark their engineering interests! We will work with motors and gears while building various machines and contraptions. Students will use their models to develop new design ideas, test out physics concepts, and even play games with their partners and classmates! Campers will get to build and take home their own LEGO® mini figure at the end of this camp.

week 7 | Jul 20 – Jul 24

Combine the endless fun of LEGO® with the magical world of castles & wizards! Children will have fun learning about and creating castles, dragons, knights and swords, using LEGO® bricks and much more. Let the magical adventure begin! Snapology: Scientists (with Slime!) (K-5)

week 8 | Jul 27 – Jul 31

Children will cultivate their love of science and nature through hands-on creation and experimentation. We will engage in concepts from astronomy, earth science, biology, chemistry and physics using LEGO® bricks and other interactive learning tools. On the last day, students will have a blast making slime, while learning about the science behind their favorite slimy polymer and how the magic is all in the ingredients. Campers will get to build and take home their own LEGO® mini figure at the end of this camp.

Snapology: Pokemania (K-5)

week 9 | Aug 3 – Aug 7

Children will explore and build the world of Pokémon® as they create their own gyms, battles and even their very own generation of Pokémon®. We will also learn about real world science while exploring their habitats and traits. Your child will have a blast exercising their imagination and becoming the best Pokémon® trainer ever! Cooking Camps

“Cupcake Wars” Camp (K-3)

week 2 | Jun 15 – Jun 19

Tier B: $285 J Members, $335 Non-Members

Each day, campers will be divided into teams to participate in competition. Each team will be given recipes for cupcakes and icings, as well as ingredients for decoration. Instructors will teach the campers the fundamentals of baking and decorating while encouraging campers to work as a team to get creative with their team’s cupcakes.  Instructors will also have mystery ingredients to teach campers how to substitute and incorporate ingredients in a recipe.  Each day of camp, the campers will be judged on their cupcake taste, design, teamwork, use of mystery ingredient, and sanitation (working clean, tidy, and sanitary), and the winning team will receive a prize.

Food Science Camp (3-8)

week 6 | Jul 13 – Jul 17

Tier B: $285 J Members, $335 Non-Members

Food Science camp will focus on chemical reactions in the kitchen. Campers will do food related experiments, prepare recipes, and study the chemical reactions behind the results. Campers will bake bread, make popcorn, ice cream, candy, and more to observe and learn the chemical properties and their reactions when combined with other chemicals, heated, and chilled. Campers will study ingredients at each state of solid, liquid, and gas; experiment with viscous liquids; and learn about water displacement, density, and emulsification.  Campers will learn to make their own batteries using fruits and vegetables.

“Chopped” Camp (3-8)

week 8 | Jul 27 – Jul 31

Tier B: $285 J Members, $335 Non-Members

Like Cupcake Wars, this camp is all about the competition! Campers will be divided into teams, given recipes and ingredients while instructors guide each team through their recipes and cooking techniques. Each day of camp will begin a new competition with new prizes to be won. Students will encounter mystery and sabotage ingredients to learn to navigate through unexpected trouble in the kitchen. This is meant to make the competition more fun and encourage teamwork, higher learning, and problem solving. Each day, teams will be judged on taste, proper cooking techniques, plating and design, teamwork, and sanitation (working clean and tidy). Students will be encouraged to work creatively, think outside the box, and have fun while learning basic cooking techniques, flavor profiles and development, and artistic expression through food.

Pasta Pandemonium Camp (3-8)

week 9 | Aug 3 – Aug 7

Campers will learn to make a basic pasta dough and transform it into a plethora of pasta shapes, colors, and flavors.  Spaghetti, fettuccini, farfalle, gnocchi, ravioli, tortellini, campanelle, and cannelloni are some of the shapes and dishes kids will learn to master this week! Campers will also learn to make sauces to accompany the pastas and delve in to making the following scratch-made cheeses: ricotta, mozzarella, mascarpone, and cottage cheese.

Check Mates CHESS CAMP – Urban Louisville Chess (4-8)

week 4 | Jun 29 – Jul 3

Learn chess basics and fundamentals, algebraic notation, rated tournament rules and regulations.  The participants will learn the 3 ways every chess player can grow, the 7 Deadly Tactics, and more from a certified chess coach. (includes free workbook)

Video Game Design (4-8)

Students will create their own video games in this amazing program! Why sit around just playing video games all summer long, when hands AND minds can be engaged with learning how they are made? Art Camps

Sew Crafty (3-5)

week 1 | Jun 8 – Jun 12

Tier A: $250 J Members, $290 Non-Members

This is a two-part camp. First, campers will learn how to sew creatures and other fantastical characters out of felt and fabric! No sewing experience required. You will learn a variety of sewing stitches and you’ll get to make a variety of stuffed animals/creatures. Second, campers will create several pieces of wearable jewelry. Projects will include using Perler beads and Shrinky Dinks to make necklaces, key chains, and earrings. Anyone who signs up will get a sewing kit and they will get to keep all of their creations.

Dance Team Camp (2-6)

week 2 | Jun 15 – Jun 19

Tier A: $250 J Members, $290 Non-Members

This dance camp will focus on aspects of dance and cheer teams! Daily activities will include dance technique, pom & jazz styles, and learning “game day” routines. If your camper has a lot of spirit and energy, this is the camp for them!  It will be led by McKenzie Ricklefs, a current member of the Bellarmine University Dance Team. McKenzie attended the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville and has trained with the Radio City Rockettes in New York City.

Animation Studio (Movie Making) (2-8)

week 9 | Aug 3 – Aug 7

Does your child love Star Wars®, superheroes or other amazing movies? We will create our favorites with stop-motion animation using LEGO® and technology. Children will work in teams to produce their own movies, complete with dialogue, sound effects, storylines and scenes based on imagination and/or popular themes. Movies will be uploaded to the web so family and friends can see how cool they are! Campers will get to build and take home their own LEGO® mini figure at the end of this camp.

Spotlight Camps

Spotlight (Drama): “The Box” (Grades 3-8)

weeks 2-3 | Jun 15 – Jun 26

Tier D:  $475 J Members, $530 Non-Members

Spotlight Camp will focus on improv and adlib skills this year!  Performers will be challenged to think on-the-spot and make dramatic decisions on stage.  The culminating show is a musical celebration of the boundless imagination found in every child!  Imagination that can turn a piece of brown cardboard into a world of possibilities!

Spotlight (Drama): “Go Fish!” (Grades k-2)

weeks 5-6 | july 6 – 17 

Tier D:  $475 J Members, $530 Non-Members

Campers will dive into their drama skills as actors, singers, and dancers this year at Spotlight Camp!  They will be challenged to develop stage presence and use their voice and body to tell a story.  The final show will be a silly under-the-sea tale that celebrates everyone’s differences.  A Tuna Fish that can’t carry a tune? A Star Fish that can’t get an acting job? A seven-legged Octopus? Students will create a fishy world of friends and discover how their differences make each of them special.

Great Outdoors Camp (4-9)

week 1 | Jun 8 – Jun 12

Tier A: $250 J Members, $290 Non-Members

Come join the J’s Jewish Outdoor Food and Environmental Education (JOFEE) Director, Alayna Altman, for a week of outdoor adventures in the greater Louisville area. As a trained nature guide, Alayna is thrilled to have the chance share her love of nature, adventure, and most importantly fun with the campers this year. Activities will include adventures like hikes through local parks, exploring local farms, paddle boarding, nature survival lessons, and much more!

Medieval Mania (Grades 2-4)

week 5 | july 6 – 10

Tier A: $250 J Members, $290 Non-Members

Do you like castles, knights, and all things medieval? Then this is your camp! You’ll learn a little about Viking culture, writing, and you will build and decorate Viking swords, shields and helmets. We will also learn about medieval England through constructing castles, drawing family crests, and decorating play weapons. We will also have a castle siege competition where you build catapults so you can attack your opponent’s fortress!

Science Olympics (2-4)

week 7 | july 20 – 24

Calling all academic athletes to compete in the Science Olympics! In this camp you will be designing and building boats, helicopters, rockets, and cars. Each camper will get to test and improve their designs throughout the week of camp. Some days may be all about the process, while on other days you will produce cool projects to take home. The best performing and most original designs will earn Olympic medals!

Championship Soccer (1-8)

week 1 | june 8 – 12

Tier B: $285 J Members, $335 Non-Members

Daily training will focus on mobility (gross motor skills development and developmental movement patterns such as squatting, hopping, running and crawling;  stability (balance exercises on the ground and on the soccer ball to trigger core support in the torso); Foot skills (stopping and trapping a moving ball, kicking with instep to a fixed and moving target, basic dribbling and aiming at a moving target, team-building with a focus on analysis of a problem and creative solutions.

Junior Lifeguards (Ages 11 – 15)

The Junior Lifeguard course will teach campers water safety and basic lifesaving skills. Daily sessions will consist of physical training, lectures/demonstrations, team building activities and leadership training.

Basketball the Bellarmine Way (3-8)

This camp will focus on teaching the fundamental skills of basketball and will be individual skill focused.  There will be an emphasis on teaching, fundamental stations, skill development and competition.  Campers will also be playing five-on-five and will have the opportunity to learn game skills as well.  Campers will be grouped by grade and ability.

Kids will have the choice of playing 2-4 sports, including flag football, lacrosse, soccer and basketball.  Our camps are instructional classes focused on building and improving the fundamental skills and game knowledge of the sport. Coaches focus on age appropriate warm-ups, drills, and lessons each day. There are also practice games played every day, so kids get to practice the skills they have learned.  Most of all, we have a lot of fun!

Grand Slam Baseball (3-8)

Baseball Camp at the J will include instructional baseball drills as well as activities that will be informative, fun and energetic for baseball players at all skill levels. The camp will focus on stretching and warmups, hitting, fielding/catching, pitching and base running. There will be baseball games daily to practice what the campers have learned.

Sleep Away Camp

Camp Livingston Sleep Away (2-6)

week 3 | june 22 – june 26

Tier C: $350 J Members, $390 Non-Members

Campers will travel with Camp J to Camp Livingston for 4 nights and 5 days to live together in cabins, allowing them to build close bonds with their peers and develop long term, meaningful relationships. They will participate in programming and have meals together, but also will interact with campers of all ages in camp-wide activities. Campers will be introduced to camp life, communal living, and sleep away camp in a short and positive way.  Campers participate in various specialty areas including athletics, arts and crafts, ropes course, lakefront activities and so much more! Special cabin activities and evening programs complete this amazing and well-rounded program.
