Bats
Thanks to all who provided tickets and snack money to take homeless families to Louisville Bats baseball games this summer! The shelter families from the Volunteers of America really enjoyed four outings, and with the year-end excess of tickets, 300 tickets were also distributed to the staff of Central State Psychiatric Hospital and to the staff and mentally handicapped clients of Kentuckiana Nursing. With the cooler summer weather, every group appreciated their evenings at the Bats. The recipients were so grateful, and I know all of you were glad your unused tickets did not go to waste.

Thank you so much, especially Larry and Evelyn Simon, Sonny and Janet Meyer, Sonny Altman, Weber and Rose, Melissa Draut, Ed and Shannon Rothschild, Mark Prussian and Jan Morris. Thanks for snack money for the Volunteers of America clients from Bonnie Bizer and Harold Gordon.

Habitat 2009
Volunteers from our Jewish community began “Raising the Roof” on August 21 and August 28 for our 8th Habitat for Humanity Home. This year’s partnership with Louisville’s Episcopal and Presbyterian Communities is dubbed ICE: Interfaith Community Effort. The homeowner, Ashley Bethel and her children, Chiniah and LaBryant are very excited and grateful for our efforts. This two-story home is in a well-established neighborhood at 4022 Grand Ave.

More Help Needed
The ICE house needs volunteers every Friday and Saturday, but I have reserved Friday work dates of October 16 (Aly Goldberg Day), October 30 (Cantor Lipp Day) and November 13 for the Jewish community.

We need 10-14 volunteers from either 8:30-4 or in shifts and lunch donors October 30 and November 13.  October 30 will be a vegetarian lunch. By these dates, I hope we will be painting. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, but experience is not necessary!

Thanks to Volunteers and Supporters
Thanks to builders who have already helped with construction: Gay Adelstein, Mary Jane and Dan Baker, Doug Boston, Keiley Caster, Gregg Davidoff, Bill and Sonja Fitzgerald, Phil Flarsheim, Michael Friedman, Adam Gallagher, Glen Goldenberg, Matt Karr, Judy Levy, Mickey Nathanson Sr., Julie Namkin, Rabbi Joe and Lev Rooks Rapport and Jason Spurzel.

Each house has a sponsorship fee of $33,000 to pay for materials, and we need to raise about $4,000 more for our part. Thanks to those who have already made a donation: Mayor Jerry and Madeline Abramson, Gay Adelstein, Sonny and Gladys Bass, Dr. Jacob and Mindy Blum, Doug Boston, Dr. Richard and Ellen Goldwin, Glen Goldenberg, Matt Karr, Sidney Katz, Judy and William Levy, and Lois and Julian Shapero,
