Teen Topics 12/23/11

[by Rebecca Waller]

Many high school teens from across the Louisville area gathered on Saturday, December 3, for a night full of fun. The JCL Teen Jam was an event to help rebuild the Jewish teen community. It was the first event of its kind to help the teens meet others from the area and strengthen their Jewish identities.

The event featured of a live DJ, an inflatable jousting ring, an air hockey table, a poker table, a picture booth, a hypnotist and even ice cream from Comfy Cow! In addition, more than $500 worth of gift cards were given away. The event was a huge success, with 54 Jewish teens attending, citywide. Everyone left with smiles on their faces and everyone seemed to have had a great time and enjoyed meeting others, especially those from different youth groups.

The event was free to the teens and paid for by Jewish Community of Louisville teen funds. Thanks to the kind donations, Jewish teens in Louisville will be able to attend many more events like this one.

This event would not have been possible without the huge support from parent volunteers and the committee that headed this project. The committee includes JCL teen representative Linda Spielberg, David Siskin, Julie Hollander, Marci Levine, Laurence Nibur, Lisa Rothstein and teen volunteers Rebecca Waller, Sadie Cohen and Josh Latzko. Without their continued involvement this event would not have happened.

Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed themselves! Keep an eye out for more events next semester and be sure to join the “JCL Teens” group on facebook for the latest information!
