Students Combine Learning about Israel and Fun at Hillel in the Hut

For college students, making time in their busy schedules to participate in Jewish activities can be a challenge, but several Hillel members made their way from their campuses to Adath Jeshurun on Sunday, September 26, for a falafel dinner in the Sukkah.

With guidance from Rabbi Robert Slosberg and Cantor David Lipp, the students fulfilled the mitzvot of blessing the lulav and shaking it and the etrog and eating in the sukkah.

During the dessert, Alan Dershowitz’s documentary, The Case for Israel: Democracy’s Outpost was shown. Dershowitz discussed Israel’s history, its right to exist and its role as a democracy in the Middle East, helping the students understand how to stand up for Israel.

After the movie, Rabbi Slosberg and Cantor Lipp led a discussion about how to respond to people who deny Israel’s right to exist.

This program was co-sponsored by the Jewish Community of Louisville, Hillel and Congregation Adath Jeshurun.
