Start the New Year By Doing a Mitzvah

Join the Jewish Community of Louisville on Tuesday, October 4, at 6 p.m. at Bravo! Cucina Italiana to hear Deborah Grayson Riegel, author of the Jewish Week’s column, “Success without the Tsuris,” at the 2012 Federation Campaign Kick-Off. And bring a friend along for the fun.

Enjoy dinner for a $10 contribution to defray the expense and a cash bar. A Vaad approved option is available upon advance request.

Then settle back for an evening of entertainment and education, because in addition to being a sought-after coach, trainer and speaker, Riegel is a stand-up comic. She will help you develop skills and gain the confidence to become a volunteer for the Campaign and to succeed in other areas of your life.

“The Campaign is the engine that keeps our Jewish community going, and it is volunteers like you and me that ensure the Campaign’s success,” said Chair Amy Ryan. “I can’t think of a better way to begin the New Year than by agreeing to help make just two or three calls for the 2012 Federation Campaign.

“So come enjoy a good Italian meal and hear an inspiring and entertaining coach,” she continued. “You’ll come away with a smile on your face and confidence that you can help do a world of good. I’d love to see you there.”

Riegel was the director of education and training for the Mandel Center for Leadership Excellence at The Jewish Federations of North America, where she developed innovative training programs for Federation professionals and lay leaders. She also worked at the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged (JASA) as the director of the only program in North America that trains senior citizens to be lobbyists. In addition, Riegel was a key player in the development of New York’s Makor/Steinhardt Center for young Jewish professionals.

Riegel’s expertise in developing training and coaching for professionals and lay leaders in the Jewish communal world was highlighted when she authored “Corporate Universities in the Non-Profit Sector,” a chapter in the book The Next Generation of Corporate Universities (Allen, Ed, Wiley 2007).

Riegel’s “Success without the Tsuris” coaching column reaches more than 160,000 readers each month. She earned a B.A. in Psychology at the University of Michigan, and her M.S.W. at Columbia University.

Amy Ryan is the training chair for the 2012 Federation Campaign and Ralph Green is the Campaign chair.
