Review, Seusical, the Musical

[by Shiela Steinman Wallace]

If you want to enjoy a sweet treat with the beat of untold numbers of poetic feet that delight folks of all ages when they come from the pages of the book you took from the Dr. Seuss nook then come on down to Seussical the Musical where you will find an incomparable feast for your inner nonsensical beast.

CenterStage is the place, but you’d better not wait. If you don’t get your ticket now, you’ll find you’re too late for there only remain one or two dates.

All kidding aside, CenterStage’s production of Seussical is delightful. Nine-year-old Samantha Cutler is a masterful performer who brings JoJo to life. Her mastery of melodies and harmonies carries the show.

Add Jacob Isaac as Horton, Lynn Kraft as Gertrude McFuzz and a full cast of Dr. Seuss favorites, including several adorable “who” children, and blindingly bright multi-colored costumes and you’re truly in for an evening of fun.

I have to admit, when the cast delivered a few lines from McElligot’s Pool, I was with them word for word and enjoying every minute.

The only thing that detracted from the performance I attended was with the microphones. Sometimes the characters began speaking before their mikes were turned on, so we missed small bits of their speeches and songs. I’ve been told that these glitches were worked out in later performances.

The show closes Sunday. If there are any tickets left, you can get them for $18 each by calling 459-0660.

Now is also the time to purchase your season tickets for CenterStage’s 2010-2011 season. Performances this season also include:25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Brigadoon, Man of La Mancha, The Music Man and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
