Review: Curtains

[by Shiela Steinman Wallace]

Are you ready for an evening of lighthearted fun – bordering on slapstick? If so, CenterStage’s production of Kander and Ebb’s Curtains is just the ticket.

I do believe it takes real talent to pull of a deliberately terrible performance, and Mandy Kramer, as Jessica Cranshaw, did just that.

Lieutenant Frank Cioffi couldn’t seem to decide if he was part of the acting company or a policeman investigating a crime. Pete Lay pulled off his split personality perfectly.

But it was really Carol Dines as Carmen Bernstein who stole the show. Sharp, brash, brazen and conniving, Dines gives an incredible performance.

There’s still plenty of time to catch the show with performance on Saturdays, March 24 and 31 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, March 25 and April 1 at 2 p.m.; and Monday, March 26 and Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m.

You’ll have to wait until May 10 for the last show of the season, but The Full Monty will be worth the wait.
