Register Today for Republic Bank Golf Challenge, Tennis or Bridge; Event Is June 27 at Standard Club

The Republic Bank Golf Challenge benefiting the Jewish Community Center (JCC) and Jewish Family & Career Services (JFCS) is just around the corner.

This year’s event, which raises funds for both agencies, will take place on Monday, June 27, at a new venue – the Standard Country Club! It also includes tennis and bridge tournaments.

“The excitement is mounting for this year’s tournament and for the expanded tournament offerings,” said JFCS Vice President and Golf Committee Chair Reed Weinberg, “and I want to remind people to get their reservations in early before we sell out.” This popular fundraising event is crucial to the success of both agencies and we want everyone to get on-board to help move them forward in the coming year. “Increased participation,” he said, “means increased support for the agencies’ bottom lines.”

Participation in the golf challenge costs $250 per person, which includes dinner and the chance to win prizes. A company-sponsored foursome runs $2500; a sponsored-twosome costs $1800.

In past years, the Challenge had been restricted to participation by golfers. With this year’s addition of concurrent tennis and bridge tournaments, the door is open for many more people to take part in this popular communitywide event. It’s a win-win for everyone – participants can enjoy a fun day and provide programming support for the Center and JFCS at the same time.

The Standard Club’s Tennis Pro, Jody Garner, will be helping the new volunteer tennis volunteer committee organize the tennis tournament. Committee members include Julie Ellis, Shelly Breier, Jennifer Tuvlin, Allison Roemer and Sara Wagner.  The Tennis Tournament will run from 2-5 p.m. and use a mixed doubles, round robin format for 3.0 or below and 3.5 or above.  Players can register as individuals or as a doubles team. Registration fee is $60/person, which includes dinner.

Mauri Malka, director of the JFCS’ Klein Older Adult Services, is organizing the bridge tournament, which will hopefully attract the Standard Club’s core group of bridge players and players from the Louisville Bridge Club. The Duplicate Bridge Tournament will run from 1-5 p.m. It is preferable to have partners register together (registration fee is $25 per person). If participants would like to stay for dinner, the cost is $35 per person.

“We are pleased that so many past sponsors are coming back to participate in golf,” commented JFCS Executive Director Judy Freundlich Tiell. “We appreciate Scott Trager’s recruitment of sponsors and hope these two additional competitions will encourage even more sponsors to participate.”

The Jewish Community Center, programming arm of the Jewish Community of Louisville, offers a wide variety of activities for members – many of which are open to the community at large. The JCC is accessible to all regardless of age, race, religion, national origin or special needs and offers cultural arts, Jewish life and learning and sports and wellness programs for individuals from six weeks of age through senior years.

For over a century, Jewish Family & Career Services has been offering counseling, adoption, career/workforce development and older adult services to individuals and families in the greater Louisville community. In addition, JFCS provides college and school advising, multicultural and neighborhood development support, communitywide workshops and seminars, a Food Pantry and emergency services.

Registrations for all events are due by June 15.  For more information, contact Sally Hollingsworth at 452-6341, ext. 240.
