Metromix Louisville Covers CenterStage’s “RENT” Production

It’s been nearly 20 years since the Tony Award-winning musical “Rent” premiered in New York and four since the last performance of its 12-year Broadway run. But the popularity of Jonathan Larson’s musical, inspired in part by Puccini’s opera “La Bohème,” lives on.

The song “Seasons of Love” has acted as a theme song for countless high school graduations and has been embraced by various popular singers, including Stevie Wonder, who sang on the album with the original cast, and Donny Osmond, who features it on his solo album.

Now, this musical set among the young, creative community of New York’s Lower East Side during an era besieged by AIDS, comes to the Jewish Community Center’s CenterStage, 3600 Dutchmans Lane. It opens Thursday and runs through July 29.
